REVIEW: MODERN DAY ESCAPE’s “House of Rats”

(by Natalie Perez)

When it comes to the likeness of an EP let alone one being self-titled several things can become of this. One, that EP can lead to a record deal and being signed onto an astounding label that will boost your talents to the next level. Second being that the EP always tends to lead to a follow-up. That’s what Modern Day Escape has accomplished during their spare time. “House of Rats”, released this past summer unleashed a heat wave of sweaty proportions, hence the perfect solution “Let’s Get Sweaty”. When the intro begins to roll the guitars and drums instantly grabs your attention followed by the vocal talents presented by James Vegas. His skillful tactics not only bring out this energy package but brings a mixture of clean vocals, screams, and guttural growls you cannot resist.

Now after the album has taken its toll tossing out the energetic proportions, you get hit with “Fit for a Queen”, the song I’d consider being the “ballad” card offered by Modern Day Escape. This acoustic takeover brings out Vegas’ vocal tones a lot more thoroughly than his previous counterparts. After the emotional overpass, the energetic rhythm is brought back with a more enforcing attitude. “Maybe Holding Hands Wasn’t Such a Good Idea”, and “Armageddon at Its Finest”, recaptures that energy used beforehand and re-leases it, expanding the vocals a lot more passionately with more guttural growls and screaming methods used a lot more often progressing the music’s sound and approach to the listener.

Modern Day Escape’s style is eye-catching and upbeat recreating this overwhelming energy explosion that overrides the music altogether. Their style is taken it to the next level as each and every song pushes through. For the fans of guttural screams and overpowering emotion this Escape the Fate resemblance should surly take an ease off your emotions.

  1. it must kill you bastards how they grouped you as the new escape the fate rip off. marti looks like a cheap version of ronnie from a dumpster.

  2. ignore your ex gf. escape the fate and modern day escape is way too different.

  3. You guys seem alright but I hate your music :/ I just can’t take it seriously, take some time to write lyrics that are important, and if you don’t have life experience get out and live a little. Don’t write songs about being on the road, and tell your guitarist to practice a hell of a lot so you can impress more people than ignorant scenester kids. You guys can do better, etf can’t be recreated, you have the formula, but do you have talent?

  4. My band had the opportunity of playing with MDE and they were fucking amazing and the coolest guys you will ever meet. We may be going on tour with them soon. Don’t listen to anyone up here cuz they dont know what they’re talkin bout. MDE is the best shit in the world!!

  5. eff all u haters! MDE OWNS!!!!

  6. i think its funny when people think there fucking music critics and then either 18 and under with no life experience in the music industry what so ever or some fat hardcore kid with over an inch gauges in there ear and camo shorts and a pair of black nike’s who thinks there gods gift to everything and going to concerts to cause harm to others makes them cooler lol mde is one of the hardest working bands out there if you dont like em cool not your thing but dont go shoving your misguided opinions in others faces because u get to hide behined a computer screen!

  7. I went to their show with someone who had a free ticket. I haven’t been to this type of show in probably three or four years. For what it is, they put on a great show. I don’t listen to this type of music much anymore, but I’d consider grabbing a CD. I’d have to check out the lyrics. Obviously they interested me enough to do a google search. Good stuff. Nice guys.
