BLOODFIEND “REVOLTING DEATH” EP and extra songs.
Review By: Mike Abominator
I remember back in the day when “journalists” that thought they were “cool” and “underground” (later on “kvlt”) would have some stuff on their play lists that would be impossible to find unless you were personal friends with the band or you were just so fucking “cool” that shit like that would fall on your lap. For example like live bootlegs, or unreleased rough mix versions of new songs, or even albums that weren’t supposed to be out for months. I used to think those fucks were just pompous assholes. Well fuck me then cause I’m reviewing a super “kvlt” band that sent me some unreleased songs that aren’t coming out right away. I guess I have become one of “those assholes” then bahahaha.
In reality, my situation here is that this band Bloodfiend from Argentina is a band that I feel really needs to be heard on a larger level. I have featured them in the “Welcome To Hell” article and now the time has come to feature them with a review. A few months back, guitarist Walter sent me an advance of their 3 song EP “Revolting Death”. What a fucking killer set of songs that was! It kicked my fucking ass and smashed my head in with it’s old school death metal attack. Total prime era Massacre mixed with some Dismember and Grave for good measure.
“Sodomized By The Cross” started the devastation off with it’s Swedish blasting fast part and then the crushing one/two beat. El Podrido has an imposing voice. The classic death metal growl that continues in the ancient tradition. His evil growls ride over the top of the sick music perfectly. The guitars of Walter are heavy as fuck and the riffs are simple yet brutal and catchy and straight to the throat with a razor sharp knife, that cuts with surgical precision. Bass player Fernando also rides the songs perfectly with his thunderous roars. And drummer Gustavo plays the coffins and tombstones to the death and crushes the weak with a vengeance. “Rotten Perished” is up next with it’s streetcleaner of an opening riff and drums of death. Just a simple one/two beat and also a simple riff arrangement, but it’s delivery and effectiveness are deadly as fuck. And it’s funny how just a simple song like this, when played by the right band, and with the right conviction, can tear your head off and shit down your neck. 3 minutes of death metal hell! CLASSIC STUFF HERE! “Crown Of Blood” ends the EP with it’s crazy fast riff and ripping maniacal energy. This song also rules and shreds your fucking face off and cuts your limbs off into bloody stumps. The only bad part is that the song is only a little under 2 minutes long. I WANT MORE GODAMIT! hahaha.
The new songs are also rippers. “Rising From The Grave” has crushing punches to start with and then the bad ass main fast riff rules your soul with it’s frentic pace. This is a fast banger, and it never lets up! It is a great song and is right up there with the EP classics. “I Brought The Worms” is another new track that kicks fucking zombie ass! The one/two beats are here again and it crushes along with the same sickness as the other songs. The double bass part is killer, with it’s total Bolt Thrower riff/heavy part. then back to the mid/fast banger one/two beat part! AWESOME! The cool thing about Bloodfiend is that their songs are short and sweet! They don’t wear out their welcome so to speak. Short and to the point deadly. They don’t fuck around. The next 3 songs are covers and are also fucking killer! “Boneyard” by the mighty Impetigo is the first to get slaughtered. It is a great song for Bloodfiend to cover with it’s one/two beats and simple yet crushing riffs! A forgotten Autopsy classic “Brain Damage” is next to be carved up. Again, the killer one/two beat attack fits perfectly with Bloodfiend’s style. The killer Napalm Death d-beat classic “Social Sterility” is next and the punk/crust madness of the song is not far from the simple death metal attack of Bloodfiend. So once again guys, GREAT PICK! hahaha. All 3 covers are fucking done well and the Bloodfiend spin is definatley given to the songs! All 3 bands would be proud!
This band is not here to re-invent the wheel. They are not here to impress you with how fast they can play or how many drums fills, gravity blasts and sick solos they can fit into one song. This is raw and ugly old school death fucking metal. Done with heart and conviction like the olden and true masters did it! Welcome to the infernal party Bloodfiend. Glad to have you in this “Triumph Of Death” against fake metal! No one seems to know about these guys, but they are big in Argentina and have opened for Venom and Benediction there. I want this to change and I want Bloodfiend to be in everyone’s collection because they fucking rule! My hope is that I will be able to be on a split release with this great band someday! Hails to the mighty Bloodfiend! Contact them first if I convinced you to get these songs (which you fucking better you muddahfucker you!)
