I got a copy of this demo from Dan Ferguson over at Abyss Records. Thank you Dan because this demo RULES! Now Dan will be putting the debut album out by Corrosive Carcass. These sickos come from Sweden, and YES, they play the Swedish Dod Metal that I love so much. It is sick and ancient sounding though. Raw like a freshly cut wound. It is dirty and smelly, just how I like it. The production is what would be expected of most demos, it sounds like it was recorded in a moldy basement with piss stained mattresses as sound proofing. And that is a BEAUTIFUL thing to these ears!
Some crazy spoken word sample pops up, by some insane Swedish guy talking about being “Satan’s People”. The death noise comes ripping and shredding at your flesh with opener “The Flesh Is Not Enough”. The atmosphere is dark and evil. The sound is pure 1980s death metal terror. The ancient tapes of Nihilist, Carnage and Dismember had this type of vibe. The dark energy and heavy/muddy vibe give it that classic attack. “Born In a Casket” has a crushing and slow start to things with a totally psychotic laugh that then gets the pace fast again. FUCKING AWESOME!!!!!! This is raw and ugly and just how I like it! I sure do miss this type of sound! There is just something about demos that gt my blood boiling. So far, both of these songs are simple, short (2 minutes or so) and straight to the throat with the razor sharp knife. “Self Mutilation” is next and has some awesome death/thrash type riffs and some blasting madness going on, until the brutal mid paced/slow banging gets added to the mix. The riffs are all killer! This might be my favorite song on the album. The riffs are just awesome. The vocals are a bit different on here with a higher register of shrieking. But it fits the chaotic nature of the song. The riffs just strangle you!
“Awesome Nuclear Power” has some great slow/evil notes to start. Then the punches hit and the fast parts come back with one/two beat banging and some blast beats as well. The next 2 mid paced banging parts are killer. I especially love the heavy as fuck faster mid paced part with the vocals. Shit, this is a long one for these guys, with the song clocking in at a whopping 3 minutes and 22 seconds! Hahaha. “Avatar” is next up and is another prime example of Corrosive Carcass just stripping shit down and going for the jugular vein. They don’t fuck around, just riff intro, fast as fuck one/two beat, growling, song over in a minute. I LOVE IT! “Chainsaw Dissection” has a great, eerie type set of power chords to introduce things, and then takes off with blazing speed again. More eerie chords from the beginning part, then some slow double bass and then some even slower doom. The dark notes rule! The pace picks up a bit until the fast shit comes back. This is another favorite song of mine. The demo closes with “Collector”. This is the EPIC song of Corrosive Carcass. It has a bass intro with some slower guitar build up. It has a Black Sabbath style opening. Then it picks up with some mid paced banging/build up. HEAVY AS FUCK! The creepy guitar part is killer and just when you think the song and the demo are over, the fast parts kick in with ripping intensity. The intro notes are given the fast treatment and this is killer!
As I mentioned, Abyss Records will be putting the debut album out during the winter time of 2011/2012. Be sure to keep an eye and an ear out for it! Totally killer ancient death metal! 7 songs in under 20 minutes! It is catchy at the same time as being dark and stinky! It will break your neck and kick you in the balls for good measure. AND YOU WILL STILL FEEL THAT KICK YA CRIPPIE. Everything about this demo REEKS of a dark alley that I would be hanging out in! GET THIS NOW! And look out for the debut album later this year!
