I wasn’t sure about this album at first. The band name reminded me of a gore/porno grind band. The band is from Germany, and has lyrics and topics in Spanish (nothing wrong with that….. Just weird! Haha!) And the kicker, AT ONE TIME, they wore masks like…… Well…… It kind of reminds me a little of Slipknot. PUUUUKKKKEEEEE. Well sorry GOREGAST, I was waay wrong about you! These guys kick major ass and have a great mix of old school death metal and old school grind core. Anyone that likes either genre will like this album. There is a good mix of prime era CARCASS and NAPALM DEATH mixed with ENTOMBED and DISMEMBER. There is also a slight crusty/punk vibe thrown in for good measure. I can hear DEICIDE at their best when the band do the dual vocal thing, and maybe even a bit of old PUNGENT STENCH with clearer production, and the prime era of DEAD INFECTION. I also think there is some American death metal thrown in with some of the better Florida stuff, and some GENERAL SURGERY, HAEMORRHAGE and even MORGOTH’s early stuff. It is all heavy and ripping at the same time. These guys have been at it for a while, since 2004. They did fly under my radar, but they have had a couple of well liked albums over the last few years (people seem to love their 2007 opus “La Revancha”.)
The latest promo photo has them without the masks! WHEW HEW! GOOD JOB GUYS! The album opens with the title track which starts slowly, then builds and builds until the song explodes with fast death metal terror. The creepy horror movie piano notes that are with it are killer! There are killer riffs all over the place and the band is in full attack and kill mode on here. “Puerco de Dinero“ is next and this time it goes straight for the throat with a full on speed assault. Relentless and it’s all over in a manner of seconds. “Honor the Dead” would fit right in place with any PAGANIZER album. Totally barbaric and crushing death metal. The 2nd riff/mid paced banger part is a head banger’s delight with its killer riffs and plodding drums. A great example of the punk/crust influence comes next with the one/two slow skank part. It has that same energy. The stop part, at the end of the song, that has the guitar leading the heavy charge until everyone comes in to slaughter, with the madness of the double bass, it’s quite fucking killer! “Corta la Coleta” is a cool song. It has the crazy dual vocals, I maybe don’t like it as much as the first 3. It has a BRUJERIA vibe going on with it’s chorus. I do enjoy the old Brujeria stuff, especially the 7 inch, but they are the only band of that style that I like that can do that type of death/grind.
“Nice Guy Next Door” and is more of a mid paced banger, but has some killer fast parts as well. It is a total death metal attack on this one. The band does both fast and slower parts very well. “Necrophagic Pathologist” returns to the grind madness with its ripping speed and chainsaw riffs. It goes back and forth very well between the fast one/two and the blasting mayhem. When I say dual vocals, there is a deeper growl and a puking scream that take place on here. And when the run together, it is pretty fucking awesome! “The Boozer” starts off in a punked out style. It stays that way for a bit until the ripping fast shit hits the fan again. The stop part with the guitars that leads into more fast banging RULES! “Capa” begins with some evil harmonies and gets all heavy as fuck . The chorus is catchy. The ending grind part gets a million extra points for reminding me of UNSEEN TERROR! “Unslave Yourself” CRUSHES with more of a CELTIC FROST vibe with those war skanks going on and over all mid paced bangery. The fast parts thrown in also kill like the others do. “Outro-bliteration” brings an end to this ripper with some eerie keyboards and effects.
This is quite an impressive album of real death/grind. It might get monotonous and boring at times to some, it has mostly a mid to fast paced range. But it is done very well. I understand that there might be an animal rights/vegan thing going on with these guys, hence the “anti-human” concept. Regardless, I enjoyed this album at first listen and will continue to do so. Anyone that likes the bands that I mentioned above might just like this album. But this should appeal to most in the death/grind underground (off the old school variety) or anyone that just digs good old school inspired extreme music. F.D.A Rekortz is another up and coming label that is putting out some killer stuff. Keep an eye out for this label, as well as Goregast!
