Here is another oldie but goodie from 2010 that slipped under my radar. Slugathor was a well loved and respected band that made quite a stir in the underground in the 2000’s, when hardly anyone was doing old school death metal. The Finns had that Bolt Thrower sound (HEAVY AS FUCK RIFFS with some melody here and there!) pretty much down to the Realms of Chaos and Masters of War! Sadly, the band broke up and now from the ashes of Slugathor comes Desecresy. This is not that far removed from the Slugathor sound of Bolt Thrower worship. It’s heavy as fuck. It retains a lot of the “Finnish sound” with the overall heaviness and deep vocals. Some of the riffs remind me of the old Amorphis demo and 7 inch. And when talking about the death metal sound from Finland, Desecresy is not as morbid or evil as say Funebre, Abhorrence or even Rippikoulu. The riffs are more catchy and there is actually a bit more melody with the high notes that run over the heavy parts at times. The pace is for the most part slower/mid paced and heavy. Thundering double bass shakes the foundations of the house and the bones in the body. The riffs often CRUSH SOULS. The high notes are haunting. It might get a bit boring to some. Maybe a bit uninteresting? The drum sound is also kind of weird. Maybe a drum machine? Maybe not? It doesn’t sound cheesy at all, just different. And it does not take away from the brutal music going on. I do wish at times the band would have a little more variety, with some faster parts, like when it takes off during the song “Artilect” out of nowhere. I would say fans of Bolt Thrower will especially like this album. And I know for sure that fans of Slugathor will love this album. I credit guitarist Tommi Gronqvist for his years of dedication to the death metal terror. He has been doing this for a while now, and when it wasn’t a “trend”. HAILS TOMMI! HAILS DESECRESY!!!!!!
