Watain prepares for their North American Assault!

By Isiamon of IMMOLITH

Watain remains one of the few bands that have managed to transcend the underground Scandinavian Black Metal scene while still maintaining their underground black metal integrity and credibility. As other black metal bands have risen in the public eye and have been accepted by larger audiences outside of the black metal genre they’ve almost always done so at the cost of losing their original fans, those fans that consider themselves black metal purists. This is not the case with Watain. Watain is preparing for what can be argued is their most noteworthy tour of the US, as part of the upcoming Decibel Magazine Tour alongside Behemoth, The Devil’s Blood, and In Solitude. We wanted to catch up with the band and find out what they have in store for North America with this tour.

Isiamon: Hails Erik, Can you tell us how you’ve been and what the band has been up to the last few weeks since the Decibel Tour has been announced.

E: Most of the last months have actually been focused on different matter, namely the 13 Year Anniversary DVD by the name of “Opus Diaboli”. As all things we do with Watain it got a life on it’s own and turned into something far more ambitious and thorough than we had first had in mind. It’s the first release on our own label “His Master’s Noise” and besides the DVD itself the whole thing is released as a box containing vinyls, cds and a photo book covering the past 13 years. So that has been taking a lot of time of course, since only graphically its one of our most ambitious works to date. The box is already available for pre-order at our own web store Wolf Wear.

I: Are you prepared for your assault on America with Behemoth?

E: As prepared as one can be. It will be a very special tour, one of those that people will have been proud of having been a part of in years to come. I will very much enjoy to tour side by side with them and also our close friends from In Solitude and The Devil’s Blood. Actually that is the thing with the tour I look forward the most to, seeing them every night. In Solitude is probably the band I have been listening the most to since their latest album came out, to me it is a perfect rock album transcending far above the grey sea of stream that comes out the gaping rectum of the music industry these days.

I: What musicians will be joining Watain for the tour?

E: As it stands now, all of us will go, including Set. Selim from The Devil’s Blood will step in if needed.

I: What can fans expect in North America? Will it be a more elaborate ritual you will be able to present to the American hordes compared to your previous tours.

E: They can expect a Watain show in all its horrid glory. As for what that means in detail… we’ll see when we get there won’t we?

I: Already one venue in Ohio had to be changed because of the reputation of Watain and Behemoth apparently did not appeal to the “Christian values” of the venue. What is your reaction to this, and are you worried more venues may have to be changed as the tour progresses?

E: Fuck them all! I could not care less about their pathetic attempts on stopping something ultimately unstoppable. So what if a venue gets changed? The Devil always wins! They can suck my dirty black cock before I let them have a say about our work. I completely understand that they are worried though. By all means, they should be.

I: Issues were raised last time Watain toured North America about how blood for your rituals were sometimes being obtained. What provisions has the band taken this time to prepare for such concerns?

E: Curiosity killed the cat, they say. Make what you will out of that. Let’s just say we have made sure we are provided for.

I: Will there be further tours for Watain in support of Lawless Darkness besides the Decibel tour, or is this the only tour fans can expect from Watain in the States this year?

E: No this will be the very last time Watain will tour the States for Lawless Darkness, and possibly in a quite long time to come as well. So take your chances now.

I: What comes next for Watain following the tour?

E: Deathlike silence and shadowy endeavors.

I: Thanks for taking the time to answer our interrogation and we look forward to seeing you on tour!

E: Greetings to our American supporters, see you on the road, in the midst of blood and fire! Support Watain and get your merch from www.wolfwear.net

There will always be naysayers and sheep. Watain have always stayed true to what they believe. Great interview, and fuck the subhuman scum who have nothing better to do with their time than to flame an interview. Keep hiding behind your keyboards, asshats. FTW

AHAHHAHAH I do know him actually and I can honesty back him up on his shit. Now a for the 6 billion dead fans, why not make it lets say 12 BILLION, or as Dr.Evil once said 100 BILLION. So I will not retract all the nice things I say about him. I may go as far as to say, hey was the line too long to sleep with him?

Erik is not intelligent. Erik is nothing more than a coked-out, two-faced, egotistical rock-star wannabe. If you knew him, you would retract all the nice things you ever said about him. Remember in one of his interviews where he mentioned he wanted 6 billion human beings dead in front of him onstage… including his own fans?? He is so condescending and disrespectful to his fans. Why do you Watainiacs kiss that narcissist’s ass? ‘Nuff said.

Watain are so awesome, and Lawless Darkness is a masterpiece. After looking at many interviews with Erik from Watain, I can honestly say that he is a million times more intelligent then the average, BRUTAL AS FUCK metal head/ metal band. Their music is strong and meaningful, and as Erik says, this is the just the beginning of something great to come.

Bullshit. They’ve lost all of their original fanbase already. Watain is already a relic of the past. They failed the underground black metal scene, and they are deluded if they think they’ll be well-received and long-remembered in the mainstream. Prostitutes.
